PCT Days: A Hiker's Tale
I recently had the opportunity to attend PCT Days, a gathering of hikers and outdoor enthusiasts at Crater Lake. It was an exciting experience, filled with unexpected encounters and delightful surprises. As I navigated the event, I couldn't help but reflect on the unique blend of camaraderie and competition that defines the hiking community.
One of the most striking aspects of PCT Days is the level of support and encouragement among hikers. I was greeted by vendors, cottage companies, and even some well-known hikers from YouTube, all of whom were genuinely enthusiastic about the event and the hikers' achievements. This sense of community is what makes hiking such a rewarding and fulfilling activity.
Despite the friendly atmosphere, there was also a competitive edge to the event. As an older hiker, I found myself pushing myself to new limits, both physically and mentally. It was a refreshing challenge, and I was grateful for the opportunity to test my endurance and resilience.
One of the highlights of my experience was the variety of food options available at the event. From delicious local dishes to familiar comfort foods, there was something for everyone. I indulged in a pint of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream, a sweet treat that reminded me of the simple pleasures of life on the trail.
As the event drew to a close, I found myself reflecting on the value of community and connection in the hiking world. The camaraderie and support I experienced at PCT Days were a testament to the power of shared experiences and the importance of fostering a sense of belonging.
Looking ahead, I'm excited to return to Crater Lake and continue my hiking journey. PCT Days has left me with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and challenges of the outdoors. As I embark on my next adventure, I'll carry with me the memories and connections made at this extraordinary event.
